Thinking about them. The unsavable characters. The ones who can never escape. The only ones who can never make it off the island, or come down from the mountain, or see the light of day again no matter what you do

One of my "littles hopes" for The Casting of Frank Stone, Directive 8020 and beyond:
Please continue the trend of having at least one playable character whose name starts with a J. So far, I liked every single one of them for different reasons. <3

Jeff Whitman as...
Tumblr media
1917's Carver double. His name might not fit but I can work around that(Carver descendant, adopted by loving stepfather), he is approximately the right age to be C for the era, beautifully illustrated in @delurkr's 1917 little hope artworks(T/D/J/M/A-f/A-m) which didn't include a carver double at the time and since the addition of tdim Jeff has been worked into the reincarnation cycle lore.
(lore and close more undercut)
Tumblr media
In this timeline Jeff lives but loses Marie which is in line with Carver lossing Madeline and that being the starting point for the descent into villainy, recall that it's only two years since and Reverend Carver had been a much more gracious man, even evidently being fully behind "He who is without sin cast the first stone" and that the lose of his wife was the catalyst for the man he'd become and this "evil Jeff" is more or less following the pattern as an "what would have happened had fate not been subverted" and because fate was subverted C was Shattered in the cycle and this is why there's a lot of him from the Midcentury era on, the powers that be made Carson but also Abe White and private Cooper who are the same age despite being shown at an earlier point(the back ups died basically)
Marie's necklace as a very visible attachment to her memory, especially given that they were married for one day and he's lived longer without her. It shows a deep inability to let go and how being hardened by time rather than healed leads to his callousness that he could not have imagined before with this speculative villain arc, all in all dying at the same time in this context would prevent his negative character arc that would occur over the following decades
There's is consideration for how things play out differently but for now I will leave you with some early progress sketches and the fact that this idea has been in the back of my mind for a good year at this point

Pitch for a Dark Pictures Anthology game:
1) The title
FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH
2) The prologue
In 16th Century Florida, Spanish missionary Juan Garcia (false protagonist 1) joins a group led by real life conquistador Juan Ponce de León. The group - guided by indigenous tracker Micco (false protagonist 2) - are on the hunt for the mysterious Fountain of Youth, a location where the water supposedly restores a person’s youth. De Leon believes that his predecessor found the Fountain before they went missing.
The group does eventually find the Fountain, but De Leon is forced to return to his base after receiving an urgent message. To ensure that no one else can claim the Fountain, De Leon orders a few members of the group to stay behind.
The following night, the group is attacked by a mysterious faction. Only Juan Garcia and Micco survive the initial attack. However, their survival is short-lived when the two end up back at the Fountain…and find themselves surrounded by a group of hooded cultists. They try to fight back, but are eventually killed.
The cultists then gather all the corpses and begin to drain their blood in the Fountain…

3) The main story (and the main protagonists)
In present day Florida, the area where the Fountain of Youth was found is now the location of the Romero-Argento Correctional Institution. It is one of Florida’s most notorious prisons as it houses the worst of the worst. We follow 4 death row inmates:
* Jackson Te Wiata (AGGRESSIVE, INSECURE): A Māori-American former MMA fighter who was sentenced to death for killing his cheating wife and the guy she was sleeping with. Despite his tough, aggressive, “manly” front, Jackson is deeply insecure and fragile. Jackson is also the most fearful of his pending execution, having not accepted the consequences of his actions.
* Javier Ortega (REMORSEFUL, COMPLEX): A high-ranking member of a Mexican gang who was sentenced to death for killing five rival gang members, as well as two innocent people who were caught in the crossfire. During his time in prison, Javier has changed his ways and now spends his time writing books about the dangers of gang life.
* Kasim Greene (FOOLHARDY, HUMOROUS): An African-American former security guard who was sentenced to death for killing his heroin dealer, unaware that he was actually an undercover cop. Kasim is the most light-hearted member of the group, having already accepted his pending execution and wanting to enjoy his last years.
* Spencer Ward (INTOLERANT, COMMANDING): A white supremacist/Neo-Nazi leader who was sentenced to death for numerous offenses, namely murder, rape, and various hate crimes. He’s the least repentant of the 4 death row inmates, believing that he was justified in what he did. That being said, he’s willing to work with the others out of self-preservation.
In addition to the 4 inmates, we also follow 1 correctional officer:
* Jesse Cruz (ANXIOUS, UNDERSTANDING): A rookie correctional officer who recently transferred to Romero-Argento. Jesse is the least cynical of her coworkers, believing that all people are worthy of redemption. She also strongly opposes the death penalty. Because of this, her coworkers believe she’s too “soft” for this line of work.
The story is that, on the eve of the execution of a prisoner named Tre Phillips, the protagonists start hearing rumors of strange activities happening after an execution is carried out. Rumors of the bodies of the deceased being taken to the basement of the prison. It’s also noted that the basement is restricted to both the inmates and the correctional officers.
The chaos officially begins when a massive prison riot breaks out, sending the prison into lockdown. Most of Act I is centered on the 5 protagonists trying to survive the riot as the prisoners take over the prison. Because the riot occurred, the real villains are forced to take drastic action, leading into Act II and Act III.
The big reveal is that the basement is where the Fountain of Youth is being maintained. In order to use the Fountain’s regenerative capabilities, the users must fill the fountain with human blood and bathe in it. The villains are actually the Spanish search party that had initially found the Fountain (the ones before Ponce de Leon). Thanks to centuries of human sacrifices, the villains are still alive in the present day.
When the prison was built over the Fountain, the villains came up with the idea of using the death row inmates as their human sacrifices. No one would suspect a thing, especially since they were already condemned by the state. However, their latest ritual was ruined thanks to the prison riot. So now, they’ve revealed themselves in order to complete the blood ritual.
As the protagonists, it’ll be up to the players to determine whether or not they escape the prison…or end up being the latest victims of the Fountain. (Side note: Players can also determine whether the prisoner protagonists can become fugitives or be re-incarcerated).
4) Casting / Face models of the protagonists
* Jackson Te Wiata: Played by the celebrity guest star, Cliff Curtis
* Javier Ortega: Same face model as Merwin from House of Ashes
* Kasim Greene: Same face model as Olson from Man of Medan
* Spencer Ward: Same face model as Jeff Whitman from The Devil in Me
* Jesse Cruz: New face model, couldn’t think of anyone (maybe Erin Keenan from The Devil in Me? I’m only hesitant since TDIM just came out)
* Juan Garcia: Same face model as Salim Othman from House of Ashes
* Micco: New face model, couldn’t think of anyone

Jeff Whitman x Marie Whitman
1. they're having the most healthy relationship imho and you're ready to this conversation
2. They are so fun and cute together!!!
3. They are so tooth rottingly sweet, they had a pillow in their hotel room? Adorable! They deserved to ride the Ferris wheel and live happily ever after
Jamie Tiergan x Erin Keenan (Jerin)
1. my beloveds okay, i was in pleasant shock when saw a "young love" plot line (i didn't know anything about TDiM when i started it so didn't expect to get lesbians)
2. Jamie and Erin already have such a wonderful dynamic to begin with, having bounced around each other before taking the leap after enough flustering and teasing. They care so deeply for each other, and one losing the other is beyond heartbreaking. Erin even admits how much she doesn't want to lose Jamie, which makes my heart scream and yell and cry and oh my god
3. They're sweet, they're cute, they're canon! Supermassive finally gave us an official queer couple that can get together and Jerin deserves some recognition for that. <3
4. I mean, its Jerin! They're relationship is so cute and interesting even if they don't get together, its so clear when they don't they still very much love and adore each other and have so much more to say. And when they ARE together they are just so cute and gentle to each other. The perfect couple <3 (also they are a very rare non-white biracial lesbian couple that aren't toxic or weird so the representation they hold is just <3)

Idea for a “Dark Pictures Anthology” future installment:
1) NAME OF THE GAME
The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Emperor’s Wrath
2) PROLOGUE
1165, Japan. It is one year after the death of former Emperor Sutoku, who had abdicated and was exiled. Sutoku, who devoted himself to a monastic life after his exiling, offered scriptures to the Imperial court. The court rejected his scriptures since they feared the documents were cursed, incurring Sutoku’s wrath. Sutoku carried this grudge to his deathbed.
During one particular night, a samurai warrior named Iori Kitagawa and a saburuko/serving girl named Marin Yamamoto notice a strange fog engulfing the entire court. Suddenly, they hear screams as people begin to fall victim to something hidden in the mist. Iori and Marin manage to escape the court, but even they too can’t escape the inevitable.
Before Iori and Marin are killed, they see who it is that’s wreaking havoc on the court; Emperor Sutoku, whose appearance has been greatly distorted, looking more like a ghastly ghoul. Sutoku has become an onryo (vengeful spirit).
3) MAIN STORY
Present day, Tokyo, Japan. Randall West, the CEO of a major American media conglomerate, finishes up a meeting with the heads of a Japanese company seeking a partnership. Along with Randall is his wife, Amanda West, and his lawyer/best friend, Wade Jefferson. His mistress Kelly Mason, Randall’s personal assistant who is at least 20 years younger than him, is also with Randall in Japan. Although Randall believes he’s doing a good job in keeping his affair a secret, Amanda already knows but doesn’t care since she’s having an affair as well.
(Affair is not with Wade, Amanda’s side guy isn’t actually seen in the story)
With the official meeting done, Randall, Amanda, Wade, Kelly, and a few of their mutual friends all go on a late night visit to the Tokyo National Museum. They’re paired up with a tour guide named Naoya Fukawa, a history nerd who is fully aware of the story of Emperor Sutoku, now known as one of the “Three Great Onryō of Japan”. Although it’s way past the museum’s hours, the owners of the museum set up a special visit just for Randall and his group.
The reason; to see the never-before-seen exhibit containing the long-lost scriptures written by Emperor Sutoku. Apparently, they were found a few weeks earlier and haven’t been available for the public to view so far, making Randall and his group among the first to see the scriptures.
What should’ve been a fun visit to the museum turns into a nightmare when the survivors realize too late that Sutoku’s scriptures are cursed. Since the writings have been moved from their original spot, Sutoku’s vengeful spirit rises once again and traps everyone inside the museum in order to wreak havoc on them.
Depending on the players’ choices, Randall, Wade, Amanda, Kelly, and Naoya can survive the night and put Emperor Sutoku’s spirit to rest…or fall victim to the wrath of the onryo.
4) INSPIRATIONS/INFLUENCES
This was mainly inspired by the legend of Emperor Sutoku, one of the “Three Great Onryō of Japan”. That’s essentially how Sutoku’s story goes, in that his spirit haunted the royal court, leading to disasters and unrest. This is keeping in line with all the other titles since each one was inspired by something in the past (the Ourang Medan, Salem Witch Trials, the Curse of Akkad, H.H. Holmes).
In terms of movies, mainly J-horror. Movies like “Ringu” and “Ju-On”. Obviously, this is different from typical onryo movies since the main villain is a male ghost, but the overall concept remains the same.
In terms of other influences, there’s the video game “Corpse Party” in which a bunch of people are trapped inside this cursed school, haunted by a malevolent ghost.
5) MAIN PLAYABLE CAST
1) Kelly Mason (SENSITIVE, ANXIOUS, DEFENSIVE): Randall’s personal assistant and his secret mistress, despite being 20 years younger than him. Kelly is the character played by the celebrity guest, which is Hailee Steinfeld (where you may have seen her in: Dickinson, Hawkeye, Spider-Verse, Edge of Seventeen).
2) Randall West (VINDICTIVE, CHARMING, EGO-DRIVEN): The CEO of a major American company, Amanda’s husband, and Kelly’s lover. His face model is Luis Augusto, whose face was also used for Salim Othman.
3) Amanda West (CYNICAL, UNDERSTANDING, HEADSTRONG): Randall’s wife who is well-aware of her husband’s cheating and is engaged in her own affair. Based on the past games, I don’t have an actress in mind for the face model, so I’ll say that a new actress can play Amanda.
4) Wade Jefferson (RELAXED, COMPASSIONATE, AMIABLE): Randall’s lawyer and best friend. His face model is Leonardo Patane, whose face was also used for Jeff Whitman and Simon Carver.
5) Naoya Fukawa (WITTY, INNOCENT, INQUISITIVE): A tour guide at the Tokyo National Museum who is assigned to Randall’s party. He is the only one of the group who knows about the legend of Emperor Sutoku. His face model is Jozef Aoki, whose face was also used for Danny from Man of Medan and Corporal Merwin.
6) PROLOGUE PROTAGONISTS
1) Iori Kitagawa: A samurai serving the Imperial court. Based on the past games, I don’t have an actor in mind for the face model, so I’ll say that a new actor can play Iori.
2) Marin Yamamoto: A saburuko/serving girl working for the Imperial court. Her face model is Ashley Voom, whose face was also used for Felicity Graves (Hidden Agenda) and Suzanne Daniels (The Inpatient).
7) THE SURVIVABILITY OF EACH PROTAGONIST
1) Iori and Marin die no matter what. It’s up to the player to decide the order and manner in which they die.
2) Randall West is the first character to possibly die (at the end of Act 1).
3) Wade Jefferson is the second character to possibly die (during the middle of Act 2).
4) Either Amanda West or Kelly Mason can be the third character to possibly die (at the end of Act 2). There’s a sequence in which both characters are in danger, resulting in at least one of them possibly getting killed off. If one of them dies, the survivor gets plot armor going into Act 3.
5) The only characters guaranteed to make it to Act 3 are Naoya and either Kelly or Amanda. Kelly and Amanda can both make it, but if one ends up dying, the other is guaranteed to continue on. So the least amount of survivors going into Act 3 (if the players have been making a lot of bad choices) can be either Naoya/Kelly or Naoya/Amanda.
6) Naoya can only die in Act 3. Naoya has the strongest plot armor since he’s the only one with previous knowledge of Emperor Sutoku.
7) All this being said, like the previous games, any of the characters can survive. You can have a Randall sole survivor ending, everyone survives ending, no one survives ending, Kelly and Wade survive ending, Naoya and Amanda survive ending, and so on.
